I started teaching back in 2012 when I landed my dream job in grade one straight outta University.<\/p><p>Like every teacher, I learned soooo much in my first three years (\u2026still learning now!). My teaching style and values changed drastically with experience and after becoming a parent myself, which has lead me to where I am today.<\/p><p>I have developed a much more wholistic approach to education. I value <strong>experiences<\/strong> over rote learning, <strong>authentic inquiry<\/strong> over teaching to the test (or curriculum), and I believe that student success starts with <strong>student happiness<\/strong>\u2026hence why Fun With Firsties puts an emphasis on the FUN!<\/p><p>Self-regulation and mental health are also areas of passion for me. That\u2019s me as a teacher. <strong>But we are not our jobs!<\/strong> So, let\u2019s get to know each other outside of the classroom\u2026<\/p><p>My two boys, husband, and our long-haired chihuahua, Carlos,\u00a0enjoy camping in the middle of nowhere and exploring the endless forests and lakes around our \u201cwilderness city.\u201d I also love hiking and climbing mountains.<\/p><p>And, because I\u2019m actually scared of heights, I decompress with knitting, crochet, reading, and gardening like a good little grandma-in-training.<\/p><p><em>Chickens and ducks have been on my bucket list for
